Health System Fundamentals for the Anesthesiologist
Thursday, September 20th, 2018, 8:30am-4:30pm. Westin Harbour Castle Conference Centre, Toronto
More than 96% of Ontario’s anesthesiologists want their work to be valued and the specialty to be recognized as innovative, engaged in system change and providing leadership in the peri-operative suite (2017 Membership Survey). To be successful in this volatile, complex and uncertain environment, knowledge of the system: the key players, their roles and responsibilities, funding models, decision making and information flows, is essential. What then makes leaders effective is the quality of the relationships they develop as well as such personal attributes as confidence and courage.
In responding to this input from members, Ontario’s Anesthesiologists are proud to announce a tailored and applied pair of leadership development opportunities. The September 20th learning session is designed to enable you to develop a nuanced understanding of the complex patient care and academic worlds within which we work and to apply that knowledge to a current issue. Designed in a two part program to advance your leadership performance, the second course offering in spring, 2019 will focus on strengthening specific leadership skills to enable you to navigate change more competently by increasing physician and other healthcare provider engagement and building effective partnerships for better administrator-physician alignment and best patient care.
Join us for this unique opportunity to elevate your leadership potential and to address real-world challenges in the OR and beyond.
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the structure of Ontario’s health care system and the impact of funding reform on hospitals
- Identify system stakeholders, perioperative leadership roles and accountabilities within hospital/academic settings
- Explain hospital and operating budget funding models, structures and flows.
- Analyze current issues of concern for anesthesiologists within the work place to determine opportunities for action
- Recommend ways in which anesthesiologists can influence and address hospital policies and challenges in the operating room
