Healthcare in Ontario is changing at a rapid rate. To succeed in this ever-evolving environment, it is crucial that, as physicians, we have a strong fundamental knowledge of how the provincial healthcare system works: the key players, their roles and responsibilities, how funds flows and how decisions get made.

Health System Fundamentals for the Anesthesiologist: Part II — designed for Ontario’s anesthesiologists by Ontario’s anesthesiologists — provides the opportunity to acquire this knowledge and to explore how recent healthcare changes introduced by the current government, including the implementation of the People’s Health Care Act, will impact our Members.

Attendance is limited with participation encouraged from across the province, making the session an excellent networking opportunity.

Health System Fundamentals for the Anesthesiologist is the fourth in our ongoing Peri-Operative Leadership Program series created in direct response to Member requests for tailored opportunities to expand their leadership skills. Please note that attendance at past sessions is NOT a requirement to attend this session.

Join us to elevate your leadership potential and acquire the skills to address real-world challenges in the OR and beyond.

What You’ll Learn

The morning will be devoted to learning the ins-and-outs of Ontario’s healthcare system. Led by Dr. Gillian Kernaghan, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph's Health Care London, you will have the opportunity to discuss the implementation of the People's Health Care Act, current fiscal realities and what is emerging on the horizon.

Following a healthy lunch, three experienced Ontario anesthesiologists — Dr. Chris Harle, Dr. Beverley Orser and Dr. Michael Sullivan — and will share their stories about addressing system challenges whether in the hospital, academic or broader policy arena, providing insights into what it takes to be a leader in Ontario’s healthcare ecosystem. The day will conclude with action planning, where you will have the opportunity to apply the day’s learnings to your own context and leadership journey.
