1st Ever Ontario Family Practice Anesthesia Luncheon

The first ever Family Practice Anesthesia Luncheon was held Saturday September 16th during the Ontario Anesthesia Meeting in Toronto. With a total of 38 family practice anesthetists and 2 family practice anesthesia residents in attendance, it was one of the largest (if not the largest) gathering of FPAs in Ontario ever! New relationships were forged, ideas were exchanged, and a collective roadmap of FPA specific priorities over the next year began to take shape. We hope to continue with this momentum with your support and hope you will be able to join us for next year’s FPA luncheon at the 2018 OAM in Toronto. A summary of the meeting follows:

  • We were welcomed by Dr. Harle and Dr. Olsen who emphasized the support that OA Executive has for its FPA colleagues
  • Methods to connect and network were shared: a listserv, a discussion board on PetalMD and/or a Facebook page are being considered
  • The importance of identity in fostering FPAs to develop as a community was discussed; these efforts will strive to strengthen relationships
  • Further discussion focused on the use of data/metrics to highlight the current landscape of excellent care we provide
  • Opportunities to pool data for purposes of rural anesthesia research and evidence based decision support were briefly discussed
  • CFPC changes requiring significant Anesthesia CME for FPAs led to a mandate being developed to help provision future OAM conferences to also be CCFP accredited; efforts to develop some FPA specific content at future meetings was also discussed

If you are an FP-A in Ontario and would like to connect to our developing FP-A community or lend your support, please fill out the below form. We look forward to building on our momentum in the coming months.
