A hands-on gastric ultrasound workshop for anesthesiologists, residents, and fellows
When a patient taking a GLP-1 receptor agonist arrives for anesthesia, a fasting history may leave questions about gastric contents. This workshop offers practical training in gastric point-of-care ultrasound to help clinicians add bedside imaging to their clinical assessment and make informed anesthetic decisions.
Dr Anahi Perlas, a pioneer in gastric ultrasound and Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto, will deliver the keynote lecture and lead hands-on instruction. Participants will practice imaging the gastric antrum in supine and right lateral decubitus positions, recognize appearances associated with an empty stomach, clear fluid, and solid contents, and work through clinical decisions using ultrasound findings.
