Volunteer Opportunity: Academic Chair
Ontario’s Anesthesiologists is seeking an anesthesiologist to join our Ontario Anesthesia Meeting Planning Committee. The position is for a two-year term as the Academic Chair for the 2026 and 2027 Ontario Anesthesia Meetings, starting in October 2025.
Every year, the Ontario Anesthesia Meeting offers an engaging academic program focused on current and clinically relevant topics. Our goal is to feature exceptional speakers from across Ontario who will enhance the quality of anesthesia care. We are in the process of securing a venue for the 2026 Ontario Anesthesia Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in the Greater Toronto Area from November 6 to 8, 2026.
The core role of the Ontario Anesthesia Meeting (OAM) Academic Chair is to plan the academic schedule for the conference weekend, secure speakers and liaise with the OMA Conference Director regarding speaker logistics. The Academic Chair’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Active member of the OAM Scientific Planning Committee
Participate fully in scientific brainstorming and planning ;
Review and contrast past academic conference schedules;
Develop an engaging, relevant and high yield academic program that speaks broadly to OA section members practicing both in academic and rural settings
Recruit and confirm invited speakers that meet the overall learning objectives of the conference;
Develop individual session learning objectives in collaboration with speakers
Attend and actively engage during the Ontario Anesthesia Meeting.
The Academic Chair will participate in regular Zoom meetings (approximately every other month) and activities outside of meetings. The time commitment will increase closer to the event.
