Volunteer Opportunity: Accreditation Chair

Ontario’s Anesthesiologists is seeking an anesthesiologist to join our Ontario Anesthesia Meeting Planning Committee. The position is for a two-year term as the Accreditation Chair for the 2026 and 2027 Ontario Anesthesia Meetings, starting in October 2025.

Every year, the Ontario Anesthesia Meeting offers an engaging academic program focused on current and clinically relevant topics. Our goal is to feature exceptional speakers from across Ontario who will enhance the quality of anesthesia care. We are currently working on securing a venue for the 2026 Ontario Anesthesia Meeting, which is scheduled to take place in the Greater Toronto Area from November 6 to 8, 2026.

We are seeking an Accreditation Chair who will:

  • Be responsible for seeking Accreditation with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) for educational activities provided by Ontario’s Anesthesiologists

  • Liaise with educators/speakers to assist them in completing all necessary steps of the accreditation process (learning objectives, PowerPoint presentations, COI forms, Pre/Post Testing (MCQs)

  • Provide professional development for speakers re: development of SMART learning objectives, best practices for adult learning, oral presentations, development of MCQs using Royal College standards, and feedback on performance

  • Ensure that accredited educational activities adhere to accreditation standards (i.e. Interactivity, Enhanced Learning)

  • Assist OMA staff in following up with speakers to obtain all necessary documentation for the OMA to apply for accreditation (Section 1 & Section 3 CME credits)

  • Support OMA staff with managing all parts of the Self Assessment Program, including:

  • ensuring all program criteria is met by the Speakers,

  • creation and delivery of pre- and post-event tests to delegates,

  • developing communications for delegates outlining the process, pre- and post-event requirements and timelines

  • Review, analyze and synthesize educational activity participant evaluation forms and feedback. Create a needs assessment and suggest/address areas for improvement in subsequent iterations of educational activities.

Experience with the following would be an asset (however, it is not required):

  • The development and implementation of a Self Assessment Program

  • The accreditation process through the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society and/or the College of Family Physicians of Canada

  • The educational and ethical standards established by the Royal College for accredited activities within Section 1 or Section 3 of the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program 

  • The process of applying for Mainpro+ credits directly via the CFPC Cert+ platform 

  • Adult educational theory 

  • Curriculum design & evaluation 

The Accreditation Chair will participate in regular Zoom meetings (approximately every other month) and activities outside of meetings. The time commitment will increase closer to the event.
